A stroll through the Old Quarter of Ciutadella

Ciutadela boasts an historic old quarter which is protected as a Heritage Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC in Spanish)

Until the nineteenth century it was a walled city, this wall bordering what is now a much-frequented street called the Contramurada, an avenue that flanks the old part of the town.

This old part of the town is made up of small alleys, of Arab and mediaeval origins. It is the area where most of the city’s monumental buildings, palaces, the cathedral, the archways of Ses Voltes and busy squares buzz with the hustle and bustle of people shopping or going for a walk. Almost the entire centre is pedestrianised, making it a perfect place for a stroll or to make purchases.

In addition to hiking we also encourage you to wander along its alleyways, to visit the port and to discover its cathedral and the museums in the town.
